Crumbs Muffin, Part Two

Dear Yoshi,

In addition to your skeleton names (which you still use), here are the newest names of your Littlest Pet Shop toys.

gecko – Playdough Ice Cream
fish 1 – Swim It
fish 2 – Fish Lollipop
dog 1 – Tooshy Plum
dog 2 – Otis Mind It Sparkle
cat 1- Milo Waterest
cat 2 – “Mommy Paints. No I was just kidding. No, the name is ‘Paint Draw and Marker Crayon.'”

You’re sweet.

Zuzu at 15 months

Dear Zuzu,

This is you at 15 months.

At your 15 months doctor visit, you were 34.25 inches long and 29.3 lbs.

You are still as smiley as you have ever been. Just looking at you or saying hi to you gets us the biggest, widest, sweetest smile. When we bring out the phone to take your picture, you immediately say “Cheeese!” and smile a big, teethy grin.

You are so delightful, and you find the world to be so delightful and interesting.

You are still a hardcore Mommy’s girl. And, you are super cuddly which I love.

You are learning to talk, and you can already say at least 40 words. The words you say the most are Mommy, cheese, water (“wadoo”), milk (“mult”), shoes, thank you (“da doo”) and book (“boot”).

You love to count things. When there are multiple of the same thing, you point to each saying “two tee two tee two tee”.

You are more social so far than the rest of us in the family. You haven’t yet had any phases of stranger anxiety or fear.

Your favorite thing to do is to climb up on to something like a step stool, a small box, a book, etc. and then intentionally dive off of it onto the ground.

You will play with anything and have fun with it. Your favorite toys are probably your blocks.

You have a bit of an obsession with shoes. You carry them around, talk about them, and try to put them on.

You also love books. It is great fun to point at things.

You do some animal noises. You do dog, cat, monkey, chicken, lion, and elephant, although most animals elicit a little growl instead of the correct noise. This is really our fault for not teaching them to you. We’ve been lazy on the animal-sound front.

You LOVE your sister, and your sister loves you even more. You guys love to play together. It’s really wonderful. You love to try to sing along with her songs by making some of the sounds from the songs.

Okay, I am sure I am missing something, but you are crying because you need a diaper change.

Another Somebody

Dear Yoshi,

You have a quirk and have had it for a year or so maybe (I don’t remember when it started). There are some names you just won’t say. We can’t figure out any sort of pattern. Sometimes we think it is because you don’t like a person, but we know that is not the case most of the time. We think it arises out of shyness or self-consciousness.

For the longest time, you would not say Nana, Papa, Grandma, or Grandpa even though it was clear you loved them all. When we would take you over to your Nana and Papa’s house, you would call it going to “Another Somebody’s House.” Now, you will say Nana and Grandma, but not the others. When you say Grandma now, you say it in almost a sweet, embarrassed-like way.

With your friends, there are a couple you won’t say. Yesterday, you wanted to tell me about the clothes your friend D was wearing. You called her “another kind of friend” even though you know her name and see her and play with her every week (and you used to say her name!). There are others you won’t say as well, and others you call B’s little baby brother, K’s little baby brother, etc.

You do the same thing with characters on TV shows. You watch a lot of the show Busytown Mysteries. You will not say Hilda. We know you like the character as you sometime will sleep with your Hilda stuffed toy. You also won’t say any of the La La Loopsey character names. One of the characters is named Pillow, and you won’t say it even though you have no trouble saying pillow in the context of the pillow you sleep on. Lastly, you used to not say La La Loopsey. You would say “I want to watch a show.” Then, I would say “which one?” Then you would say “I don’t know.” Then, I would say “La la loopsey?” And you would say “Yes.”

I have no idea.

Crumbs Muffin, the Skeleton

Dear Yoshi,

You have started naming your toys and pretend characters. It’s wonderful. Here are your most recent names for your dear rubber skeletons.
Denda — the two green skeletons
Creepy — the three orange skeletons
Wubly — a purple one
YouMe — another purple one
Crumbs Muffin — the black one

and of course…

White Skeleton — the white one.

You can’t win them all.

About the Blog

Hello! These are the letters written to my two daughters. I hope to capture their lives and share their stories to help me remember and show them who they were when they were little.

About me:
I am a work from home mom. I work part-time as an online art teacher of high school students. I am a former elementary art teacher, college art appreciation instructor, and museum educator. I am married to a science nerd husband who is awesome.

My Babies:
I have 1 lovely 2 year old girl, who I will call Yoshi on this site. She loves kitties and calls them “kikis”. I think newborns resemble baby dinosaurs, so we called her Yoshi when she was a baby.

I have a baby girl born in March. She will be Zuzu on this site. 🙂 That’s a dragon-like creature taken from the Leela’s Teenage Mutant Leela’s Hurdles episode of Futurama which is one of my favorites.

Thanks for reading! Please enjoy!
